Before joining Rail Personnel as Managing Director of its Australian practice in October 2000, Geoff had worked for the New South Wales Railways for nearly 30 years. He is a qualified civil engineer and business manager with over thirty years experience in the rail industry across New South Wales.
During his career, Geoff has been responsible for most aspects of running a railway. From early positions managing track maintenance districts, bridge construction projects and responsibility for infrastructure renewal projects in the Sydney metropolitan area, he progressed to senior management roles that have included:
Freight Business Manager (Freight Rail): Where he led the marketing and development of the $700 m rail freight business in New South Wales — expanding that business across all product areas by more than 25% over a three year period.
Regional Manager North West (City Rail): Where he was responsible for the operation of stations and train services in the north and west of the Sydney metropolitan area. He was responsible for all aspects of customer service and service delivery for the region.
General Manager South and later General Manager Illawarra (City Rail): Where he was responsible for all aspects of rail service delivery in those areas from business development, customer service and train services to the maintenance, upgrading and ultimate performance of the infrastructure.
General Manager, Metropolitan (Rail Services Australia): Where he led the service delivery of the metropolitan infrastructure and upgrading contracts to the client, Rail Access Corporation. He brought about significant changes in the commercial attitudes and performance within the contracts.
Manager, Resource Operation (Rail Services Australia): Where he managed the resourcing centres across New South Wales and brought significant improvements in the supply and matching of resources to meet the needs of the contractor.
Geoff is a Churchill Fellow, as well as a member of the Institute of Engineers of Australia and the Permanent Way Institute.
