Mike
has over 25 years of railway qualifications and is a
professionally qualified Railway Engineering Executive. As a Chartered
Engineer with experiences from New Zealand, Europe, Hong Kong
and the United Kingdom, he is an expert specialising in modern
rolling stock and maintenance.
Mike started his engineering development with a Bachelor's in
Electrical and Electronic Engineering. His career began in the
United Kingdom at British Airways where he learned the basics
of Maintenance. He took on Supervisor and Manager roles and was
responsible for fleet maintenance, heavy repair and paint shops,
depot management and rolling stock. Mike was active in managing
staff and leading the technical direction of his teams in maintenance.
In 1991, Mike relocated to Hong Kong and joined the Kowloon Canton
Railway Corporation (KCRC). He had full executive responsibility
for all rolling stock matter including the safety, design, maintenance
and overhaul of fleets. As the Manager overseeing the East Rail/West
Rail Rolling Stock, Mike was able to improve reliability of KCRC's
EMU fleet and concurrently, to reduce the rolling stock fleet
maintenance costs. His knowledge in rolling stock also allowed
him to help KCRC implement new safety management approaches as
well as to contribute in implementing the modernisation and redevelopment
of other rolling stock maintenance facilities in Hong Kong.
Mike then joined Bombardier Transportation in 1998 to manage two
12-year maintenance contracts. During that time, he was involved
with Bombardierˇ¦s Atlantic Europe Division including design,
tendering, business growth and operational matters. He helped
integrate the current maintenance professionals into new train
designers and ensured improvements in train life cycle costs,
reliability and availability. In addition, he successfully introduced
Bombardier's new trains in the United Kingdom along with the design
and construction of a new maintenance and overhaul centre.
Mike's maintenance skills were then utilized at Alstom Transport
in New Zealand as Chief Executive Officer, where he was responsible
for the operation of maintenance with locomotives, wagons, and
DMU's. His contributions were quickly seen with an increased reliability
in locomotive fleet and a reduced wagon fleet maintenance cost.
He then put his executive ability towards restructuring the management
team and facilitating commercial awareness and cultural improvement.
Mike's familiarity in rolling stock and maintenance is also evident
from his list of professional qualifications including Fellow
of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, Fellow of the Institution
of Mechanical Engineers, Fellow of the Institution of Permanent
Way Engineers, Member of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers
and Member of the Institution of Professional Engineers of New
Zealand.
In addition to his credentials, Mikeˇ¦s experience has allowed
him to build on his technical skills and mature into executive
wisdom. He is aware of translating business targets into workable
plans but concurrently to utilise modern and customer focused
approaches with his international experience to ensure quality.
Mike's personality and work style is now replicated on the Rail
Personnel Team, where his expertise in Rail is used to match people
and positions.
