A work-seeker's permit should be obtained in order to work in South Africa. You can apply for work permit at any South African Embassy, High Commission or Consulate. If South Africa is not represented in your country or a neighbouring country, you can also lodge your application via a registered Employment/Immigration Agent or Attorney.
The overriding consideration in work permit applications is whether the employment or task to be undertaken cannot be performed by a South African Citizen or an approved immigrant already residing in South Africa. Therefore, work permits are only granted on instances where South African Citizens or permanent residents are not available for appointment or cannot be trained for the position.
Please note that this information serves as a guide only. Requirements for work permits in South Africa are subject to change and each application is treated as an individual case. For further enquiries, please consult your nearest South African embassy, High Commission or Consulate.
