14 March 2023. France. SNCF and Nevomo to cooperate on MagRail

Pioneer of maglev-inspired technology for existing railways Nevomo has signed a Memorandum of Understand (MoU) with the French state railways SNCF. The companies will evaluate the benefits of MagRail within the French railway network to increase the efficiency and capacity in passenger and freight transport.After signing a cooperation agreement with Italian infrastructure manager RFI in 2021, Nevomo continues to make progress, now establishing a cooperation with the French railways SNCF.“We have noticed the high technicality of Nevomo and consider that the proposed technologies are likely to advance the railway”, says Luc Laroche, Innovation director at SNCF.

13 March 2023. India. Alstom Begins Production of Bhopal & Indore Metros’ 1st Train

Alstom Transport India today formally started manufacturing 52 Movia train-sets in Savli, Gujarat for Indore Metro and Bhopal Metro’s Phase 1 projects. This super exciting development comes 8 months after Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Co Limited (MPMRCL) awarded Alstom with Indore and Bhopal Metros’ combined 156 coach rolling stock & signaling contract with a 4.18 year delivery deadline.

13 March 2023. United States. US DOT gets over $1bn allocation for rail safety upgrades

The US Department of Transportation (DOT) has an allocation of more than $1bn in President Biden’s FY 2024 Budget for rail safety improvements. This funding will help expand DOT Federal Railroad Administration’s core safety efforts and improve crucial rail infrastructure. The budget allocation includes $273.5m for the agency’s railroad safety personnel and extending critical inspection and audit capabilities.

13 March 2023. Australia. ARTC to Rollout Solar-Powered Signalling for Inland Rail Corridor

The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has approved the use of solar-powered signalling systems across its Inland Rail corridor between Albury, NSW and Gowrie, Queensland. Following a successful trial of the solar signalling system at Coolleearlee, NSW, ARTC has confirmed that this design will now also be used at the remaining 82 Inland Rail signalling sites.

10 March 2023. United Kingdom. Docklands Light Railway depot expansion gets underway

Transport for London has appointed Morgan Sindall Infrastructure as main delivery partner for the expansion of the Docklands Light Railway’s Beckton depot to accommodate new B23 trainsets being supplied by CAF. This will include the construction of a new maintenance building and additional stabling for the 54 five-car automated light metro trainsets, which are longer than the DLR’s current fleet and are expected to enter service in 2024-26. The order includes 33 sets to replace some of the DLR’s oldest trains, and 21 to increase capacity.

9 March 2023. Philippines. Alstom to deploy ETCS Level 2 in Manila

Alstom is to install ETCS Level 2 on sections of the North-South Commuter Railway in Manila totalling 106 km under a €1·1bn contract awarded by Mitsubishi Corp in early March. The contract is for provision of railway systems for the NSCR Extension, which covers the 55 km South Commuter Railway between Tutuban and Calamba, and the 51 km northern section from Malolos to Clark International Airport; the NSCR Phase 1 segment between Tutuban and Malolos is not in scope.

They are looking for a Senior Service Engineer to be based in Hong Kong to provide technical service support to internal and external customers for the company"s products (i.e. Brake, Automatic Doors, HVAC units and others) aimed to facilitate the growth of the business in railway division.

Responsibilities:

* Responsible for after-sales service support: troubleshooting/ fault diagnosis, health inspection and remedy

* Provide on-site technical support: Calibration of test equipment, measurement, testing and commissioning

* Supervise sub-contractors on retrofit work and maintenance work

* Service report writing and inventory record control

* Handle and support warranty issues

* Provide technical advice to assist on the services and business development

They offer a 5-day work week and a hybrid work environment.

Job Requirements:

* Higher Diploma /University degree in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

* Minimum 5 years relevant experience in technical supports and services

* Registration of Electric Worker (Grade A) license or above is an advantage.

Senior Transport Economist, Manila, Philippines

Job Description:

Our client is seeking a Senior Transport Economist to prepare the Assessment, Strategy and Roadmap (ASR) for the Philippines' transport sector in accordance with the client's Framework for Preparing Sector Assessment, Strategy and Roadmaps.

This is an intermittent (not full-time) contract with 30 Work Days from 1st April 2023 until 15th June 2023.

This Job closes on Wednesday 22nd March 2023.

Detailed Tasks and/or Expected Output:

* Description of the transport sector's overall role and relative importance to the economy;

* Assessment of the sector context based on key sector features and performance indicators with a focus on the past 5 years;

* Identification of sector development problems and known causes and effects on sector performance, including policy issues, institutional and governance issues, and sector investment issues;

* Discussion of concerns in the main subsectors, including all modes of transport, urban transport, and overarching concerns such as trade competitiveness and climate change;

* Review of the government's strategic objectives and priorities for addressing the identified constraints in the sector and the subsectors;

* Summary of key elements of government sector policy and significant strategic changes over the past 5 years;

* Outline of past and proposed future development partner support in the context of identified sector or subsector issues with emphasis on the current CPS period;

* Description of the client's lending and non-lending program over the past 5 years and, based on the experience gained from the program, determine the focus of the client's forward strategy and proposed program; and

* Supervision of a national consultant with respect to data collection and other activities to be performed by the national consultant in support of preparing the ASR.

* Provision of a sector results framework as a potential input to the country results framework.

Reporting and Timelines

* The total duration of services will be 30 workdays, on intermittent basis. This work will commence on approximately 1 April 2023 and will be completed by 15 June 2023.

* The consultant will be working mostly in Manila, Philippines.

* The consultant will report to the Principal Transport Specialist, SETC

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualification Requirements

* At least a master's degree in transport engineering, economics, or relevant field,

* At least 20 years of relevant professional experience, and

* Work experience in projects financed by ADB or multilateral donors, i.e., World Bank, etc.

* Work experience in Philippines and Southeast Asia countries

Minimum General Experience: 20 Years

Minimum Specific Experience (relevant to assignment): 15 Years

Regional/Country Experience: Required
