19 June 2024. Spain. CAF to Deliver 40 New Trains to Metro de Madrid

CAF has signed a contract with Metro de Madrid to supply 40 new trains for the Spanish capital. This is part of Metro de Madrid’s initiative to renew and expand its rolling stock fleet. These units will be the first of 80 new trains set to be ordered. The agreement is valued at nearly 400 million EUR and covers the design and delivery of 40 wide-gauge, single-voltage trains to operate on lines 6 and 8 of the metropolitan network. Additionally, the contract includes the development and implementation of a programme aiming to optimise the fleet’s life cycle. It also contains a future option to increase the number of train units supplied.

18 June 2024. New Zealand. New Zealand to invest $284m in rail through 2024

The New Zealand Government has allocated NZ$466m ($284m) for rail investments in its 2024 Budget, continuing the downward trend of funding for the sector over the last five years. Funding allocated in the budget is split between Auckland’s Rail Network Rebuild project (NZ$159m), track renewal work in Auckland and Wellington (NZ$107m), and the Rail Network Investment Programme (RNIP). State rail operator KiwiRail recognised the government’s “need to manage spending” but welcomed investments for the areas “where it is most needed.”

18 June 2024. India. Bengaluru metro CBTC and platform screen door contract awarded

Bengaluru Metro Rail Corp has awarded Alstom a contract to supply Urbalis communications-based train control and platform screen doors to support Grade of Automation 4 driverless operation on the next stage of the Namma Metro network. The €96·2m contract announced on June 12 covers various sections of the metro project: Phase 2 Reach 6 (Pink Line, 21·5 km), Phase 2A (Central Silk to KR Puram, 19·8 km) and Phase 2B (Airport Line, 38·4 km). It includes staff training and five years of maintenance. The onboard equipment will be fitted to 53 six-car trains being supplied by BEML.

18 June 2024. Hong Kong. Hong Kong extends rail links with Chinese mainland

Hong Kong’s rail operator MTR said it has expanded its long-distance and intercity services to mainland China, via its subsidiary High Speed Rail (HSR). The majority of the routes are daytime operations between the Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the populous regions of South China. But HSR has launched new sleeper services from the island city to major Tier One cities, including Beijing and Shanghai.

18 June 2024. Australia. Inland Rail reveals next piece of project puzzle

Inland Rail has unveiled another element of the project, releasing vision of the final Beaconsfield Parade bridge precinct. The new visualisations provide an illustrative sneak peek of the improvements that are being incorporated into the Inland Rail works, including improved pedestrian and vehicle connections. Inland Rail said that during engagement with the community it heard heritage, safety, accessibility and connectivity were important, and that this feedback is reflected in the final precinct design.

14 June 2024. United Kingdom. Alstom Secures £370 Million Contract for Elizabeth Line

Alstom, a global leader in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a contract worth around £370 million for ten new nine-car Aventra trains – and maintenance – for Transport for London’s Elizabeth line. Opened in 2022, the Elizabeth line continues to experience passenger demand ahead of predictions and its current 70-strong fleet of Alstom-built Aventra Class 345 trains would be insufficient to meet demand later this decade and through the 2030s. The additional Aventra electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger trains will be built at Alstom’s Derby facility.

14 June 2024. Malaysia. Malaysia’s new CRRC rolling stock delivered

The first deliveries of the third generation of CRRC EMU trainsets have arrived in Malaysia, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. The new ETS3 units rolled off the production line of CRRC Zhuzhou Locomotive in Hunan Province on 7 June and were delivered to Kuala Lumpur within a week. The upgraded trainsets are the third generation of Electric Train Service (ETS) locomotives and cars designed by CRRC specifically for the Malaysian market. The new trains will enter service on the 950km Gemas-Johor Baru Electric Double Track line.

They design, develop and manufacture a variety of equipment to make constructing and maintaining railways more efficient and they are looking for a Business Development Manager to support their activities in Indonesia and possibly Malaysia. This role is based in Jakarta, Indonesia and will report to the Managing Director.

Main Purpose of Job:

* Define the business strategy of the company brand in the Indonesian market and deploy it with the support of the team.

* Market and promote the sale of the company products through proactive regular contact with Customers, Agents, Consultants, Suppliers, and other stakeholders such as Government officials and Contractors to secure sales orders.

* Develop new and existing markets through regular visits and formulation and implementation of marketing plans and Customer Relationship Management to generate sales.

* Profitable operation of the company in accordance with Group Policies, Strategic Plans and annual Operating Plan and Budgets.

Key Areas of Activity & Responsibility:

* Define and deploy the business sales strategy and objectives in conjunction with MD Indonesia

* Set the priority action levels by market and define the performance indicators. (budgets, priority markets, etc.)

* Define marketing strategy in collaboration with MD Indonesia

* Analyze performance to guide actual forecasts by reference to market knowledge and defined strategy

* Define the forecast budget (sales & operations), monitor, and revise and implement corrective actions as required.

* Collect and analyse information on the performance of competitors and markets.

* With the assistance of the existing operational staff, coordinate and ensure all import and export activities of the company are handled in an efficient and timely manner and in accordance with the requirements of the Company and Indonesian statutory requirements.

Job Requirements

* Engineering, Manufacturing or Commerce bachelor's degree from a recognised tertiary institution.

* Preferably to have Postgraduate a degree from a recognised tertiary institution.

* 5-10 years' experience proven experience and success in a similar role.

* Must be fluent in Indonesian.

* Proven people management skills.

* Demonstrated ability to lead a team at all levels of management and employees.

* Good written and spoken English language skills.

* Excellent skills in strategic planning implementation and execution of business plans to ensure the continued success of the company.

- Sales and marketing activities before bidding of rail projects in the Middle East/Israel

- Project management in the Middle East after award of contracts

Period of Contract: 2 years base period (Further extension by mutual agreement)

Job Summary:

[PROJECT MANAGEMENT]

* To advise the company for rail turnkey tender

* To write/review of relevant proposal in respect of system integration during bidding preparation stage

* To contribute the company to establish partnership with stakeholders of the Middle East and global market (current target businesses are in UAE, KSA, Israel etc.)

[SYSTEM INTEGRATION ENGINEERING]

* To advise as a project management in the Middle East after award of contracts

* To coordinate with partners for system integration scope of work and responsibilities

* To provide the Company technical assistance such as advising for the good performance of the contracts

Position Responsibilities :

(i) During Pre-Tender and Tender Stage

- To establish and maintain regular contact with the Client, potential consortium partners/suppliers, governmental bodies and other officials where appropriate to promote the Company as a rail system turnkey Contract in the Middle East and global market (current target businesses are in UAE, KSA, Israel etc.)

- To keep the Company advised for the outcome of such regular contact

- To support the Company to form a proper partnership for rail turnkey tender

- To manage the Company to prepare right strategy and high quality bidding proposal in the aimed bidding projects

- To review RFPs from the client and annualize any risk factors/solutions

- To coordinate with partners for system integration scope of work and responsibilities, and to write/review of relevant proposal in respect of system integration during bidding preparation stage

- To report periodically about market practice, relative positions and movement of competitors, published or informal information from the Client during the Tender progress

(ii) During the Contract execution stage

- To be nominated as a System Integration and Interface Engineer for specific projects awarded

- To maintain active and close communication and coordination with the Client, its representatives and assigned consultant from the Client and/or Contractor, consortium partners/suppliers and the Company in order to perform the awarded Contract successfully in all technical commercial matters

- To provide the Company technical assistance for the good performance of the contract

- To assist the Company for obtaining licenses, consents, approvals, and any other governmental permits for the performance of its obligations under the Contract in the Territory

- To support the Company to avoid or mitigate risks which may be incurred during the contract execution

- Proactive risk, saving and opportunity management

- Management of the project progress and its KPIs, and reports to top management, with transparency during the business/critical project reviews. The Qualified Project Manager is the representative of the project towards the Company management.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications :

* 20+ years rail system integration and rail business

* Knowledge about the latest rail signaling technology

* Previous experience working in major players, or Rail System consultant or Rail Signaling Suppliers are preferred.

* Language Skill: English (Fluent)

Preferred Qualifications :

* Engineering study is required

* Experience managing complex international railway projects

* Familiarity with railway system certification and safety regulations

* Ability to thrive in a multicultural and diverse team environment
