11 February 2025. Morocco. Colas wins EUR 430 million HSR contracts in Morocco
The Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) awarded two subsidiaries of Colas three major contracts totaling EUR 430 million to develop the Kenitra – Marrakech HSR. The Moroccan subsidiary GTR (Les Grands Travaux Routiers) has been selected for lot no. 3 of the civil engineering works, worth nearly EUR 180 million. In addition, Colas Rail will be responsible for the design and construction of the tracks, catenary systems, and substations for a total of EUR 200 million. The rail subsidiary will also carry out lot no. 1 of the superstructure and civil engineering works on tracks in operation, amounting to EUR 50 million.

11 February 2025. Germany. DB Signs Landmark €6.3 Billion Contract for Digital Rail Technology
Deutsche Bahn (DB) has entered into a landmark long-term volume contract with four rail industry companies to supply and implement digital control and safety technology (DLST). This 6.3 billion EUR agreement marks a significant step in modernizing Germany’s railway infrastructure. The contract covers digital interlocking technology (DSTW), including the European Train Control System (ETCS) and integrated control and operating systems. The agreement ensures that DB will procure 15,500 control units by the end of 2028, with individual projects extending until 2032.

AtkinsRéalis, world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, has been appointed by Network Rail to lead design integration for a central section of the TransPennine Route Upgrade (TRU), the 18-mile leg from Stalybridge to Huddersfield. Under an eight-year Lead Design Organisation (LDO) framework, AtkinsRéalis will provide critical integration and design services to Network Rail including engineering management, design integration, schedule integration, BIM, and survey management – from design to construction.

Siemens Mobility has been awarded a technical support and spare parts supply contract for the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The agreement, granted by general contractor SMH Rail, supports planned maintenance following eight years of the line’s operation. Under the 40-month contract, Siemens Mobility will supply components, subsystems, technical supervision, and staff training to SMH Rail, the maintenance provider. This arrangement builds on Siemens’ existing involvement in the Sungai Buloh-Kajang MRT Line and extends its role in Malaysia’s public transportation sector.

President Claudia Sheinbaum has set out plans to extend Mexico’s 1 477 km Tren Maya network to Belize and Guatemala, adding approximately 300 km of new lines. To be delivered in stages, the proposed expansion plans announced on January 29 follow discussions with President of Guatemala Bernardo Arévalo, and Belize’s Prime Minister John Briceño, who originally requested the extension. The first phase would involve the construction of just over 7 km of tracks branching off the Tren Maya network west of Chetumal and crossing the Hondo River which borders Mexico and Belize.

10 February 2025. Afghanistan. Herat – Kandahar railway design contracts awarded
Acting Minister of Public Works Mohammad Issa Sani has signed five contracts for domestic companies to produce detailed designs for a 737·5 km railway from Herat to Kandahar. The contracts announced by the ministry on February 6 have a total value of 264m afghanis. The studies are to be completed within eight months. The ministry said the start of practical work for the project would be dependent on the budget and financing being finalized.

10 February 2025. United Arab Emirates. Hafeet Rail awards freight terminal and wagon contracts
UAE to Oman railway project promoter Hafeet Rail has awarded contracts for the construction of two freight facilities and the supply of wagons. It has also reached an agreement for the transport of aggregates on the future line. Larson & Toubro and Power China are to design and build ‘state-of-the-art’ logistics facilities with advanced automation and control to handle bulk, containerized, and breakbulk cargo at Al Buraimi and in the port city of Sohar. The Sohar site will include provision for locomotive and wagon maintenance.

HS2 Ltd today invited two companies to tender for a major contract to supply, operate, and maintain its elevated transit system at Solihull’s Interchange Station, following a shortlisting process. The search for a contractor to supply, operate, and maintain HS2’s Automated People Mover (APM) sees POMA S.A.S and Doppelmayr Cable Car UK Ltd called to submit tenders. HS2 Ltd will award two contracts to the successful contractor for a collective value of around £269 million.

Austin Transit Partnership (ATP) has commenced the procurement process for the final design and construction contract for Austin Light Rail Phase 1. Awards are expected to begin next year. Austin Light Rail Phase 1 is set to enhance mobility across the city with an all-electric train service operating every 5-10 minutes throughout the day. The nearly 10-mile alignment includes 15 stations, new pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and a bridge over Lady Bird Lake.

Missions/Main Duties
- Controls the compliance of the performed works with the design and implements the procedures related to the quality system about the construction of metro tunnel structures. Organizes and carries out the control tests of materials used and works performed, organizes and carries out the measurements of the performed quantities of works and is responsible for keeping the documentation on the performed works;
- Conducts a detailed review of the Contractor's plans and programs and gives recommendations to the Client, who ultimately decides on these matters. Participates in the activities of the Contractor in the planning and preparation of the dynamic work schedule by providing advice, recommendations, references to specifications, etc. Gives an opinion to the Construction Manager on the plans and programs of the Contractor Organizes the monitoring of the progress of works by the plans and programs.
- Issues orders to the Contractor to correct defects. Ensures that the Contractor receives instructions, recommendations, approvals, etc. on time to avoid the delay of works and claims by the Contractor;
- Checks whether the installed materials are provided with the necessary attestations, certificates, as well as other documentation proving the quality and whether they meet the appropriate standards;
- Continuously monitors the actual costs and quantities of all works performed by the Contractor;
Job Requirements:
- University degree in a relevant discipline;
- Knowledge of the English language;
- Advanced knowledge of working in Office packages and other software packages (e.g. AutoCAD, etc.);
- Civil engineer for tunnels must prove that he has spent at least 12 years of experience in the position of responsible contractor and/or expert supervision on underground metro construction projects or road/railway tunnel projects, executed using the TBM construction method.
