20 August. 2024. United States. Honolulu awards downtown metro contract

Civil engineering company Tutor Perini has won a $1·66bn design and build contract covering the extension of Honolulu’s Skyline metro into the city centre. The contract was awarded on August 15, with construction to start next year for completion in 2030. The City Center Guideway & Stations contract is the third phase of Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s metro project. ‘This is the largest single contract of the entire project and sets the course for completing the project through downtown Honolulu’, said HART’s Executive Director & CEO Lori Kahikina.

20 August 2024. Spain. Adif invests €260m into upgrading Spain’s rail freight network

The national infrastructure manager has announced a group of new works as part of its ongoing upgrade for the country’s rail lines. Spain’s railway infrastructure management company Adif has invested €262.6m ($291m) into a group of projects to enhance its rail network with a focus on improving freight services in northwest and central Spain. The three investments include €119.6m for the electrification of the Zaragoza-Teruel-Sagunto line, €107m for the adaptation of the railway gauge on the Madrid-Zaragoza line for its Rolling Highway project, and €36m for new signalling equipment on the Zaragoza-Huesca-Canfranc line.

19 August 2024. United Kingdom. Alstom agrees £60m refurbishment contract for CrossCountry’s Voyager fleet

CrossCountry’s Voyager trains are set to undergo a transformation, as Alstom agrees a £60m refurbishment contract. The work will encompass 312 cars, including 136 Voyager (Class 220) and 176 Super Voyager (Class 221) vehicles respectively. More than 250 cars belong to the existing CrossCountry fleet, while a further 12 will be added following their release from Avanti West Coast. Alstom says that sustainability will be at the heart of the work, with the new seats set to be at least 95% recyclable and 98% recoverable, with lighter materials also expected to be used throughout the trains to help reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.

19 August 2024. Singapore. Siemens set to power Singapore’s Cross Island Line

The German firm will also provide signalling and catenary power delivery on the CRL. Siemens Mobility and Concord Corporation operating as a consortium have won the contract to supply Singapore’s Cross Island Line (CRL) project with power for the fully-digital metro rail line. It is thethird contract awarded to the German multinational for the CRL project, after it won the tenders for providing catenary power systems and its Trainguard CBTC signalling (which included the provision of full-height platform screen doors).

19 August 2024. Australia. Contracts awarded for level crossing removal

The Victorian Government has awarded contracts for the removal of four dangerous level crossings and the construction of a new Melton Station. In Melton, new rail bridges will take trains over Coburns and Exford roads and new road bridges will be built over Ferris Road, and Hopkins Road in Truganina – making Melton boom gate free in 2026. One contract has been awarded to John Holland, Kellogg Brown and Root (KBR), Metro Trains Melbourne, V/Line, and the Level Crossing Removal Project to build the new Melton Station and remove the level crossings at Coburns and Exford roads

19 August 2024. United Kingdom. AtkinsRéalis appointed to enhance rail signalling across east England

AtkinsRéalis Group Inc. (TSX: ATRL), a world-class engineering services and nuclear company with offices around the world, has been appointed by Network Rail to renew and enhance the signalling and telecommunications infrastructure in its Eastern region, which hosts over 6,000 miles of track. AtkinsRéalis has been selected as one of two suppliers for Lot 2A (Generalist Signalling and Telecommunications) under the Eastern Routes Partnership Framework, Network Rail’s main route to market for projects in the Eastern region.

19 August 2024. Australia. Sydney Metro City Commences Passenger Service

Transport for NSW has commenced passenger service on the new Sydney Metro City extension, connecting northwest Sydney, the CBD and Sydenham. This service provides an extra 15.5 kilometres of metro line, alongside six brand-new underground stations and new metro platforms at Central Station and Sydenham Station. This new section of railway is part of the M1 Northwest & Bankstown Line, which now extends 51.5 kilometres through Sydney with stops at 21 stations between Tallawong and Sydenham

15 August 2024. United States. MBTA Orders 41 Rail Cars from Hyundai Rotem

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) has ordered an additional 41 rail cars from Hyundai Rotem. This order exercises an option under an existing agreement to replace MBTA’s ageing fleet and meet increased ridership demands. The units will join 83 cars previously ordered through the agreement, 64 of which are already in passenger service.

Our client is seeking a local Commercial Manager to be responsible for the overall commercial management of a Project. In a project environment you will manage and control the commercial functions of procurement, subcontract administration and payment, claims and claims management, design build contract issues, commercial reporting and cost control. Must have the ability to operate and manage at the executive level of the Project structure in a PPP/PFI environment.

Responsibilities include:

- Management and Supervision of commercial functions

- Commercial and contractual advice to Executives and Project Managers

- Development and implementation of commercial management procedures

- Commercial review and risk analysis of Design Build contract

- Cost Control, commercial reporting and analysis of financial position of the project

- Training and development of commercial staff

- Subcontract procurement, administration and claims management.

- Commercial management of designers and the design process

Must have sound experience in:

- Sound understanding of contractual, commercial and financial functions on major projects.

- Able to provide direction and support to all commercial staff.

- Command the respect of the Executive Board on commercial matters.

- Advise on commercial strategy for successful project execution.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

- Currently operating at senior executive level on a major project or as commercial director in a large construction company.

- Proven commercial management ability at executive level.

- Thorough knowledge of contract language and legal requirements of contracts.

- Excellent people and leadership skills.

- Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Job Requirements:

* Minimum of 10 years commercial management experience on major international projects.

* 5 years experience as commercial director or senior executive with a large construction company.

* Proven track record on delivering commercial success on major projects.

* Experience in managing thirty or more commercial staff.

* Previous project Joint Venture experience is desirable.

Estimation Manager, Makati City, Philippines

Our client is seeking an Estimation Manager, ideally from Philippines for this position (please note this is not an expatriate role).

Work involves estimation of civil works projects and final responsible for the consolidation of the cost of the project and editing of the closing sheet together with a Bid Manager.

Responsibilities

- Definition of the basic strategy and methodology for the execution of the works of estimation of the supply.

- Generation of the cost estimate of a project, with the management of offers of suppliers and subcontractors.

- Elaboration of work programs and coordination with the estimation team (either internal or from our partner in case of JV).

- Supervision of cost estimation, cash flow, investment study.

- Definition of the calendar of activities to be carried out for the successful tender submission.

- Risk analysis.

- Supervision of the process of consultations or clarifications to be solved with client after offer submission.

- Negotiation of contracts and agreements with suppliers.

Job Requirements:

- Civil Engineering Degree

- Management of software related to estimation ie. CANDY

- Minimum 10 years in a similar position leading the estimation in a Infrastructure project to the value of USD$300M

- Ability to manage complex teams

- Knowledge and understanding of working at site;

- Available to travel according to the needs of the bidding processes.
