1 October 2024. India. Alstom delivers 100% locally produced metro trainset to Delhi

Alstom Transport India Ltd handed over the first of 52 six-car driverless Metropolis trainsets for the Delhi metro on September 23. Described as being ‘100% locally designed and produced’, the trains are being built at Alstom’s factory in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh, under the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India) initiatives. ‘Our locally manufactured, cutting-edge Metropolis metro trains are set to play a pivotal role in improving the quality of life for citizens and driving the city’s development’, said Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India.

1 October 2024. Australia. Contract awarded for Beerburrum to Nambour Rail upgrade

The Queensland Government has awarded the contract to deliver the Stage 1 major rail works package of the Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade project, marking a significant milestone for the project. This package includes duplication of the rail line between Beerburrum and Beerwah, straightening the rail line between Beerburrum and Glass House Mountains, an upgraded park’n’ride facility at Beerburrum, new or upgraded road overpasses, and upgraded train signalling systems.

1 October 2024. Australia. Contracts awarded for Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail

Two of three major contracts have been awarded for the $5.75 billion Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project. Jointly funded by the Federal and Queensland governments, the project is crucial to increasing train services and catering for a booming population on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines. The project will: Double the tracks from two to four between Kuraby and Beenleigh, Upgrade and rebuild train stations between Kuraby and Beenleigh, and Remove five level crossings

1 October 2024. Europe. Alstom Consolidates European Operations with New Regional Structure

Following its acquisition of Bombardier Transportation three and a half years ago, Alstom is restructuring its European operations to further strengthen its presence in the region. As part of the restructuring, the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) will be combined with the Nordics cluster (Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Iceland) from January 2025. Germany plays a vital role in Alstom’s wider European operations, particularly as a key exporter to the Nordics.

1 October 2024. Lithuania. Lithuanian Railways upgrades comms network and opens Rail Baltica centre 

LTG Group has celebrated two recent landmarks. LTG Group the Lithuanian national railway operator, and its partner Ribbon Communications have announced the completion of a “critical” network upgrade.  The work included both trackside hardware and network management and security software solutions, including Ribbon’s Future Railway Mobile Communication System.  “This sophisticated data network enables LTG to seamlessly handle the demands of modern rail transport and enhance its customers’ safety and experience,” said Christian Erbe, Ribbon’s Head of EMEA Sales.

30 September 2024. Europe. Hitachi Rail Unveils New ETR1000 Model with Trenitalia

Hitachi Rail, in collaboration with Trenitalia, has introduced the latest model of its ETR1000 train. With 78 ETR1000 trains already in service and an additional 48 on order, this high-speed train has revolutionised rail travel across Italy, France, and Spain, covering nearly 200 million kilometres since its launch. The new ETR1000 features a re-engineered traction motor and updated power units, enhancing energy efficiency. It also boasts a new bogie and an advanced Train Control and Monitoring System, fully developed by Hitachi Rail.

30 September 2024. United Kingdom. SPL Powerlines UK and partners redefine overhead line electrification with ground-breaking trials

SPL Powerlines UK, alongside its partners, has had a landmark month with trials on 75km of newly installed overhead line electrification (OLE) between Kettering and Wigston. As part of SPL Powerlines UK’s contract, the company was responsible not only for installing the 75km of OLE, but also for overseeing the critical task of completing and verifying train testing. This process is a legal requirement under the National Technical Specification Notice (NTSN), which mandates the testing of OLE at operational line speed using a fully instrumented pantograph.

27 September 2024. Egypt. Velaro high-speed train for Egypt’s hot and sandy conditions presented at InnoTrans

The first of the 250 km/h Velaro high speed trains that Siemens Mobility is building for the 2 000 km turnkey rail system being developed in Egypt has been unveiled at the InnoTrans trade fair in Berlin. In a short event the train was presented to Kamel Al-Wazir, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister and minister responsible for transport, industry and trade, in the presence of Germany’s federal Minister of Transport Volker Wissing.

27 September 2024. United States. $3 Billion Brightline West Grant Agreement Officially Signed

The Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) has officially signed the 3 billion USD grant agreement awarded to the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) for the Brightline West project. Initially announced by President Biden in December 2003, this grant is a part of the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail. It will support the construction of Brightline West, which broke ground in April. This high-speed line will connect Southern California to Las Vegas with trains traveling at speeds of over 200 miles per hour.

Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced engineer for the position of Deputy Project Manager to work on their contract for Locomotive and Wagon Manufacturing and Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO). This role is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and will report to the Senior Project Manager.

The Deputy Project Manager is responsible for assisting the Senior Project Manager in managing all aspects of projects related to locomotive and wagon manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul to ensure quality and achieve project success.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead project execution ensuring adherence to quality standards, safety regulations, and contractual requirements.

- Implement strategies to mitigate project risks and address issues promptly to maintain project momentum.

- Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.

- Maintain accurate and comprehensive project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, meeting minutes, and correspondence.

- Ensure project documentation is organized, accessible, and archived appropriately for future reference and audit purposes.

- Identify, assess, and manage project risks to minimize potential impact on project objectives.

- Establish quality control measures and standards to ensure project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations.

- Conduct regular quality inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality requirements and standards.

- Implement corrective actions to address quality issues and prevent reoccurrence.

- Identify cost-saving opportunities and implement cost-control measures to optimize project profitability.

Job Requirements

- Degree in Electrical and Electronics/Mechanical Engineering

- Good appreciation of the constraints and interface requirements of electrical and mechanical work

- Strong project management and leadership skills with a proven track record

- Hands-on experience in trains assembly and trains remanufacturing

- Experience in providing communication & instruction for Electrical Engineer/Supervisors

- Experience in production control and coordination of electrical task to achieve the target date/hours.

- Experience managing supply chain and ensure material delivery is maintained.

- Experience in ensuring QA compliance and control.

- Good communication and presentation skills

- A team player who is analytical, resourceful and result-oriented

Job Description:

Our client is a leading EPC/EPCM engineering company and global key service provider in the semiconductor industry.

They are looking for a Commissioning Manager for work in Taoyuan.

Work content

* Leading site supervision of installation inspections / checks, testing and commissioning works at site, monitoring and surveillance of compliance to quality standards, specifications. Managing issuing NCRs for deficiencies/noncompliance, identifying snags and management / monitoring of snags closure.

* Developing Testing and Commissioning Plans, procedures, schedules as required.

* Managing review and approval of Testing & Commissioning Method Statements for each systems & equipments.

* Managing and participating in review and approval process of Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) of each systems & equipments, O&Ms, As Built documentation etc

* Managing Site acceptance testing (SAT) witness and certification process for all equipment and systems. Reviewing functional test data for evidencing compliance with performance specifications and other standards. Reporting on testing and inspection results and coordinating for Engineer/ consultant's sign off /certification of the relevant systems/sub systems as applicable.

* Coordinating with Construction manager, Project Manager and contractors for Inspection of respective systems/subsystem's and documentations of functional testing record sheet for disciplines.

* Coordinating with contractors for schedule of vendor attendance at site for critical equipment, complex system packages and monitoring the vendor presence as per schedule to be prepared and agreed during project execution.

* Reviewing and monitoring availability of required consumables spares for the pre commissioning testing, commissioning and operation etc.

* Participating /conducting Safety reviews, safety hazard identification and mitigation planning with Contractors.

* Coordinating with contractors to ensure that site acceptance tests (SAT) and inspection of works are carried out as stated in the performance specifications, ITPs

* Following up & coordinating with consultants for all 3rd party inspection review of testing & certification as applicable.

* Managing and coordinating preparation of system for punch listing activities, reviewing and following up with Contractors/ consultants for the close out of punch list items, through time bound corrective action/review. Expediting/following up with the respective engineers involved in the completion of individual system punch lists.

* Managing the Lockout & Tag out activities as per approved procedure.

* Leading and attending regular construction/commissioning meetings on follow up for Pre commissioning/ commissioning activities, reviewing and following up areas of concern in the contractors preparedness/resources with regard to commissioning schedules.

* Preparing regular inputs for progress and forecast reports on relevant construction completion, pre-commissioning & commissioning, start up, etc. to project management.

* Coordinating /reviewing with contractors & relevant stakeholders for preparation of Operation & Maintenance manual,

* Develop Training Plans and coordinate., manage training activities in coordination with the Project Management Team

* Managing and ensuring handing over of the facilities to the user including all 'as built' documentation and facilitating smooth occupation in liaison with Post occupation facility management entity including necessary training, as required for the End User/Asset holder.

* Participating in project close out activities.

Job Requirements

- University Master's Degree

- More than 10 years'experience

- Experience in motor testing

- Communication skills in English and Chinese are needed
